Shwedagon Pagoda (Yangon Temple)

Magnificent place of worship for the Buddhists and also the main attraction for tourists who are visiting Yangon. A must see location.

We were there about 4-5 years ago or a couple of years before the coup. We were so fortunate to see the country before the chaos kicked in. The Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda here in Myanmar and according to Wiki, it houses the relics of 4 previous Buddhas of the present kalpa (or this life time). I am not a Buddhist but I loved this place.

Visitors were mostly quiet and simply sat under shades provided by trees around the temple premise and talked to each other or enjoyed the peace and quiet. The worshippers would walk around the main pagoda as their form of respect and worship.

The sketch here actually featured part of the Southern entrance. I drew this from a photo taken while we were there.
