Han Sai Por (Chinese: 韩少芙; pinyin: Hán Shà ofú;[1] born 19 July 1943) is a Singaporean sculptor. A graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), East Ham College of Art, Wolverhampton College of Art (now the School of Art and Design of the University of Wolverhampton) and Lincoln University, New Zealand, she worked as a teacher and later as a part-time lecturer at NAFA, the LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, and the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, before becoming a full-time artist in 1997. (Wikipedia)
At the sculpting symposium 2014, I happened to sketch Han Sai Por while she was at work on her sculpture using trees trunks and branches. It was a giant piece and it required her to use a ladder to work on it.

Pentel Brush Pen on copy paper.
Pun intended. We open our presents and gifts on boxing day, a day after Christmas Day. (Done with Pentel brush pen and colorised in Photoshop).
I am fond of drawing skeletons, or the skull.

f you have not had coffee and kaya butter toast at Tong Ya coffeeshop, then you won't be because it has closed (some weeks ago). This is one of our favorite spot to paint and sketch at the same time because of its unique and challenging shape and design. I missed those days where we could simply cross the street and have coffee while we were sketching or painting there. With this closed and refurbished into a hotel, the junction would loose the heritage and historical flavor forever. And all we see in the future would be the cold and polished facades or drop down glass windows of another possible cafe where gourmet coffee may be served and drank while you hold the cup with your pinky pointing towards the sky.

Weather was good though sunny, but I was always in the shade just in case I got burnt. Chanced upon this again and this was the second or third time I passed by it, so I did not want to miss sketching it again. It was about 40mins of work for this sketch to be completed.
Dunlop Street is a little street market located in Little India. The cross junctions of Dunlop Street, Upper Weld Street, and Campbell Lane house many vegetable and fruit stalls and coffeeshops and eateries. I think the essence of Little India could be found at that few junction, which is a short distance from Serangoon Road and Tekka Market. The hustle and bustle of people and vehicles is a daily ritual starting as early as 8am. It is also quite a challenge to paint there because there is literally limited standing space. But we found our spot that day. It wasn't in a shade but the weather was overcast. However the moment we finished our penciling, it began to rain so we have to cut short our painting expedition there. I painted my pencil sketch back at home.

I took some artistic liberty to change the building color to orange and brown in my painting. The original color is apple green. Then when I was looking up the building online, I also realized that the previous color of the building that I painted was orange. So its okay.
Painted with acrylics. Painted a total of 4 Munnys for a joint exhibition titled "After the Summer of 1890" - a theme evolving Van Gogh's life and paintings. This is one of my favorite which was bought and presented to MP Baey Yam Keng who was the Guest-of-Honor on the opening night.
Look what I got in the mailbox today. Two copies of DestinAsian Jun/July 2013 issue; this issue includes a writeup of my trip to Pranang Bay, Krabi Thailand made last year in December. The sketch was made with my Hero pen on the big Nudebook that I brought along with me. It was a happy trip and I sketched myself happy too.

Thank you DestinAsian!

I love Van Gogh and I wanted to have a toy made of him so I painted a medium sized Munny in the likeness of one of Van Gogh's self portrait. It is now being shown ay Fullerton Hotel as one of the exhibits that pay tribute to Van Gogh's life as an artist. This Munny is sold already. I am sad to part ways with it. Time to make another.

Compilation of all the doodles done this evening.
Today's class is all about painting. Everyone is encouraged to try out or to further practice on a new medium besides the usual dry medium we have been using. I set up the skull as a still life to paint, for the students as well as for myself to practice.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.
Commissioned work for HWM magazine, Photoshop.

And I thought we just celebrated Christmas not long ago.
The world is chaotic, economy is not doing very well but we would always find out place in Christmas when everyone stops to find that badly needed peace in our lives. Whatever happens around me, I find my peace in my all loving God in heaven and in the LOVE and COMPANY I find in my wife, Kat.
Blessed Christmas everyone!!

It has been a long time since I updated my blog with my commissioned work. Here's the on going illustration job that I have been working on since I came back from the US after my studies and work. I got hold of the most current issue and took pictures of the illustrations together with the rest of the book layout. I am privileged to be contributing to the magazine I enjoyed reading.

You should have noticed that I have changed the theme for my blog to adopt a cleaner style and design. The theme is developed by Wordpress and is named "Twenty Eleven"- a easily customized theme that allows user to make changes with widgets.
Anyway here's another drawing I did referencing from a photo taken by Yuen Mun Kit, who has been following the Urban Sketchers around and taking beautiful shots of the sketchers. I chose this image particularly because of how Chanel was curling up like a cat while she was sketching, and looking up as if she was about to pound onto her subject.

The above drawing was done with Hero fountain pen, scanned and colored in Photoshop.
Hope you like it.
