Manga Studio Ex | Clip Studio Pro/Ex

Test2A Manga Studio Pro has changed its name and has been improved on. It is now called Clip Studio Paint Pro/Ex - a Japanese painting program that is also geared to manga artists who want to create their manga or comics panels digitally. This program adopts a much different work flow compared to Photoshop, and has plenty of functions that are totally not present in the Adobe program, therefore there are tons of things that you can do in Clip and not in Photoshop and vice versa. It takes a bit of time to get use to the interface and also how things work in Clip. I would say the learning curve initially is quite steep. Currently I am completely thrilled to be testing the conversion function of turning an image in Clip into line art that would look somewhat like a manga line drawing. If the settings are right you would get a good look and feel, and requires less rework. The result I got was pretty satisfying. You can do the same in Photoshop but with a lot more steps. In Clip, you are given an UI in which you are merely clicking the up and down arrow keys to change the settings. You could preview the changes real time but it may take a bit more of your processing power. I wish I have a more powerful CPU. (Well if everything turns out well, I might make plans to acquire a new computer). I have just upgraded my Clip Paint Pro to Ex when I got an email that the software is having a sale. The Ex version allows producers to work on a book compilation rather than single pages. I have yet to explore this but will update on this blog if I am able to show any progress. Stay tune. So far, creating comics has been fun with Clip Studio Paint. :D
