Top of the hill - gem of knowledge

Saturday May 9, 2009 - we were celebrating a friend's birthday by bringing him around Glendale so he could decide whether he would like to move from Korean town to settle here. The first destination was Brand library which is housed in the mansion Brand built in the midst of Brand Park, on top of the foothills overlooking Glendale and the San Fernando Valley.

According to records, the mansion named El Miradero, is designed similar to the East Indian Pavilion built for the 1893 Columbian World Exposition held in Chicago and visited by Brand.

"The architecture is considered Saracenic, with crenellated arches, bulbous domes and minars combining characteristics of Spanish, Moorish, and Indian styles."

Brand library is the one place we enjoyed a lot while living in Glendale. You know, it seems to us that visiting a local library is very important. While we were in Savannah, the Bull's Street library was our common hangout place too and it was a stone's throw away from where we lived. Now, Brand Library was about 10 minutes drive away up the Brand Park where we would sit to chat and enjoy the scenery from the hill top.
